5-min. Presentation Reflection

What would you say stood out about your presentation performance and why?
I think that my performance wasn't great, but it was okay because I had things to talk about for 5 minutes. And I was talking about balls which makes teenagers giggle haha.
What was the most challenging  to do and why?
The most challenging part of the 5-min is to figure out what to talk about for a short amount of time because there is so much to talk about, narrowing the topic down to only five minutes is tough, when you can keep going on and on about the topic.

Interview 1 Reflection

What is the most important thing that I learned from the interview and why?
What I learned the most is that what I have been reading is actually true to a lot of people. The philosophy of a coach is very important when it comes to their team, and being able to pass on your knowledge and be a mentor for little girls is a rewarding experience. Even if coaches don't have the same reasons to coach or have had different experiences a good coach always teaches his players about life not just winning and losing.

5min. Presentation- Rough Draft


Objective: Teach the class what a coach’s job is. Tell them about different coaching practices and what good coaching is versus bad coaching.

Procedure:
  1. Check the class’s background on sports
    1. Raise your hand if you played a sport
  2. Ask the class about significant things that tier coaches do when coaching them (in games or at practices)
  3. Explain the job of a coach.
  4. Talk about the influence of a coach on everyone around them.
    1. Act out how the attitude of a coach can affect everyone’s game (role playing)
  5. Check the class for understanding
    1. Do you know see what coaches may do wrong to affect the teams performance?

Independent Study 1

For my first Independent study I logged the hours that I played with my travel team, California Mirage Elite. I logged hours for a few weeks including practices and tournaments. I turned in a log signed by my coach that had 41.5 hours of softball in em, with detail games and practices.
LIA
L- I played softball. I practiced with my team, on the field and in the batting cages, we also condition together. I played in 3 tournaments the weeks i logged. They were the last tournaments y team had before going 'dark' for the HS season. I turned a hard copy of the log in to my house teacher for approval, it was signed daily by my coach.
I- You learn something when you do it and playing softball i learn something new everyday. Practicing with my team and just talking to them helps us learn more about each other as a team and coaches teach you something all the time. Even if its a repetitive practice and you know how to do it the repetition may teach you new things, how to do something faster or how long you can work until you get tired.
A- Playing the sport helps me learn more about the sport, even though I've been playing for a number of years I'm still learning new things from my teammates and coaches.

Independent Study 2

What are you doing?
         For my second independent task I am helping coach a local 8U softball team and working with pitchers from the league as an individual coaching.
How will you verify it?
          I will have one of the other coaches or manager of the team that I am working with sign off on my participation with the team. With girls that are pitching I will have parents of the daughters I am working with sign off on practices.
How does it relate to answering your EQ?
        Coaching young girls helps with my EQ because this is what my EQ asks, 'influencing youth athletes to play softball', and coaching them shows me how they act when they play and how they respond to different coaches attitudes and teaching techniques.

Interveiw 1- Who are you going to interview? Why?
 Brian S. or Milo C. Brian is and umpire and used to coach a lot of younger teams.
Milo has been with softball for a long time and has couched from t-ball 16U teams.

What other questions are you going to ask your interviewee?
Going off what they know about softball I'll ask them how long they've been with part of softball, what got them into it, why do they still do what they do, do they get anything out of it, what do they think about coaching younger girls, how to approach different age groups.

Topic Choice

My topic: Softball Coaching/Umpiring
Why I chose my topic: Softball is my life, it's my passion and my favorite sport. I love to even just watch the game which is why I started umpiring which is another topic choice in mind.
What I want to accomplish: I want to be a better softball player and gain more knowledge about the game. Hopefully this will help me work more and even harder, which may help me get a scholarship. (I want to play college ball)
